Description
Police are appealing for witnesses and information following the murder of a man in Wembley during the early hours of Valentine's Day.
Detectives have today released an image of a man they are keen to trace. He is believed to be in his mid-30s, Somali in appearance, and from north-west London.
At approx. 02:20hrs on Tuesday 14 February, officers and the London Ambulance Service, were called to reports of a man injured following an assault.
On arrival officers found a man suffering from serious head injuries. He was taken to a north-west London hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The deceased man has today been formally identified as 35-year-old Omer Jama Abdi of Somalia.
A post mortem took place at Northwick Park Hospital on Tuesday 14 February, and the result of this was inconclusive. We await further tests to be carried out.
We understand that the victim had been involved in an altercation with two men described as Somali in appearance outside an address in St John's Road, prior to the assault.
Detective Inspector Mark Lawson, of the Homicide and Serious Crime Command, said: "We are urging anyone who recognises the man who has been captured on CCTV to come forward and speak to us. This was a horrendous attack on a man who lost his life in a relatively quiet residential road in Wembley, over what we believe was a domestic dispute.
"We believe that the male suspect frequents the Wembley area and I am particularly keen to hear from anyone within the Somali community who can help us identify him. All calls will be treated with the utmost confidence, and we will have Somali speaking officers on-hand to assist."
Anyone with information is asked to call the incident room on 020 8358 0200; or if you wish to remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
+ A 39-year-old-man was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday 14 February at an address in Wembley on suspicion of murder. He has been bailed to return on a date in late March pending further enquiries.
