Appeal to trace prolific burglar
05 July 2013
Detectives from Merton Borough are appealing to trace a man after a series of burglaries in Wimbledon Village which officers believe may have been perpetrated by one prolific burglar.
The number of burglaries being potentially linked to this burglar is 35. These incidents date as far back as 2006. Despite extensive enquiries and the release of a photographic image to the media in 2012, he has yet to be caught.
Detectives are now releasing a clear image of the man caught during a burglary in Bathgate Road, Wimbledon Village on the 29 March 2013.
The burglaries are being linked as they have been committed in a similar manner within the Wimbledon Village area.
The meticulous removal or destruction of security equipment of the properties is part of the burglar's tactic prior to committing the burglary.
The thief steals small items during the burglaries, including money and jewellery.
Officers last year released a CCTV still believed to be the same man after an attempted burglary in Wimbledon Village.
Police were called on Thursday 12 January 2012 to a residential address on Arthur Road, Wimbledon Village following reports of an attempted burglary.
The suspect is believed have arrived in a dark Vauxhall Astra or Corsa which he parked nearby before using a small ladder to climb over a fence. He then cut the cables to the exterior CCTV cameras and tried the rear doors before leaving the scene.
Detective Supt Dave Palmer of Merton Police said: "This latest picture is being released as it provides a much clear image of the suspect and we hope that someone will come forward and provide information that will allow police to prosecute this offender and prevent any further residents becoming victims to his criminal activity".
Anyone with information is asked to contact Merton Police on 020 8649 3159 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
