Advice for overseas visitors & students studying/living in London
After you arrive in the United Kingdom, you may need to register your stay with the police.
If you need to register, this requirement will be written in your passport and you will need to register within seven days of your arrival in the United Kingdom.
If you are staying in the Metropolitan Police area in London, you should register with us at the following location:
Overseas Visitors Records Office
Brandon House
Ground Floor
180, Borough High Street
London
SE1 1LH
Facilities
The pedestrian entrance at OVRO is suitable for wheelchairs. There are disabled toilets and baby changing facilities inside.
Transport
Brandon House is opposite Borough tube station on the Northern Line and is served by bus routes 21, 35, 40, 133, 343. There are no parking facilities available on site.

Please note that there is a registration fee, currently £34.00, which may be paid by cash, sterling travellers’ cheque or most debit and credit cards. We do not accept Euros or American Express.
Documentation
If you are planning to live in the London area, registration can only take place at this office and you should bring the following documents with you:
- Passport or travel document
- Any Home Office letters/forms
- And a work permit if appropriate.
Photographs are not required as one will be taken at OVRO and is included as part of the registration fee.
Registering with us for the First Time?
You will find it helpful if you complete the First Time Registration Proforma in the Related publications section and bring it along with you when you visit us. You can complete the form using Adobe Reader, but please note you will be unable to save the completed form, so please print when complete.
If you are not staying in the Metropolitan Police area, you should contact your local police for the addresses and opening hours of other police registration offices.
