Borough Commander profile

Michael Gallagher

I joined Brent police on the 3rd March from Lewisham Borough where I was a Detective Superintendent in charge of CID and Police operations. Prior to that I served in Brixton, Scotland Yard and King’s Cross.

I was born and bred in London. Working in the emergency services runs in the family as my Dad, Sean, was a fireman and then trained as a police officer and was based in South London.

At 22, I began a career that started as a police constable at Bexleyheath police station. In 1990 I became a Detective Constable and was posted to Kings Cross and Islington and worked on Operation Welwyn where I was part of a policing team tackling widespread drug dealing and vice in King's Cross, cleaning up the area ahead of its environmental structural redevelopment.

In 1996 I was promoted to Detective Sergeant in Brixton where I worked within the Drugs and Firearms Team. I stayed there till 1998 when I transferred to the Specialist Crime Directorate at Scotland Yard which involved combating organised criminal gangs in the UK as well as internationally. I was promoted again in 2005 and went back to Brixton as a Detective Inspector where I was until 2008 when I went to Lambeth Borough on promotion to Detective Chief Inspector. I became Borough Commander of Brent Borough in March 2014.
