Arrest in phone hacking investigation

Officers from the Metropolitan Police Service's Operation Weeting team have today, Thursday 14 April, arrested a man on suspicion of unlawfully intercepting mobile phone voicemail messages.

The man [C - 55ys] was arrested at 08:00hrs and taken to a London police station.

He remains in custody for questioning after being arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to unlawfully intercept communications, contrary to Section 1(1) Criminal Law Act 1977, and unlawful interception of mobile phones, contrary to Section 1 RIPA 2000.

The Operation Weeting team is conducting the new investigation into phone hacking. It would be inappropriate to discuss any further details regarding this case at this time.
