Message from Chief Superintendent Dave Stringer, Tower Hamlets Police Borough Commander

"As many of you will know, The Metropolitan Police sought an order banning demonstrations in four North London boroughs, including Tower Hamlets in response to planned demonstrations involving the EDL (English Defence League) and UAF (United Against Fascism) in Waltham Forest on Saturday.

"Local poeple welcomed extra police on patrol"

My role in Tower Hamlets was to provide extra police patrols to make sure our community knew that we were well prepared to prevent any problems occurring in our area.

I went out on patrol with Chief Inspector Rick Tyson and I am pleased to say that, as always, local people were very supportive of our efforts and very much welcomed the extra police on patrol".
