New Scotland Yard

Last week (15 February) over 125 residents from across Kingston, Merton and Sutton met the Commissioner, Bernard Hogan-Howe, and were able to question him about policing on their boroughs.

Chaired by London Assembly Member Tony Arbour, the event was held at Kingston University Penrhyn Road Campus and was also attended by Commander David Zinzan, and local borough commanders Martin Greenslade (Kingston upon Thames), Darren Williams (Merton) and Guy Ferguson (Sutton).

The Commissioner spoke about his vision for policing in London and spent time addressing questions from the public which ranged from stop and search, gangs, Safer Neighbourhoods officer numbers, to hate crime investigations and how the Olympics would effect policing in their boroughs.

Those attending the event found it informative and interesting and left the event with a better understanding of the Met's priorities.

The Commissioner will be hosting further events across London in the coming months to meet and hear from members of the community. The next event for residents of Hackney, Haringey and Islington with be held on 28th March 2012 - full venue details to be released shortly.
