Commissioner's mounted patrol
01 February 2012
On Tuesday 31 January, Met Police Commissioner Bernard Hogan-Howe policed the match between Tottenham and Wigan at White Hart Lane alongside colleagues from Haringey Borough and Mounted Branch.
The Commissioner was on horseback in the streets around the stadium, supporting officers and experiencing first hand the policing of football in London.
With an attendance of over 36,000 the Commissioner spoke with fans whilst providing a highly visible policing presence with Mounted Branch - as well as meeting officers and observing police briefings in the lead up to kick off.
"I know of the fantastic partnership the local police enjoy with the club."
The MPS has developed strong partnerships with football clubs across London which benefit the local communities, fans and the clubs.
Commissioner Bernard Hogan-Howe said:
"I know of the fantastic partnership the local police enjoy with the club and I am here tonight to see that in practice - and soak up some of the atmosphere. With such a large crowd this is a great opportunity to meet members of the public whilst working alongside my officers to ensure that everyone can enjoy the game."
