Coppetts Neighbourhood Policing Team take action

25 January 2016

Metropolitan Police Service

In response to the promises made to our ward panel at our December meeting we have completed the following:

1. Coppetts Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) organised an operation geared towards stopping cyclists riding their pushbikes on the footway with no lights after dark. Amongst those stopped was a male riding a stolen push bike. The bike had been stolen some time ago, however it was traced to the owner as the bike was registered on the bike register scheme and had it not been on that scheme we would not have been able to trace the owner.

2. Coppetts NPT conducted a joint operation with UK Border Agency and borough licensing authorities at a restaurant in the ward on 18th December 2015. Two workers were arrested in breach of their immigration status and the premises owner was served notice that they are liable to fines of up to £20,000 per illegal worker.

3. A brothel has been closed on the ward and a female occupier was issued with a Community Protection Written Warning Notice. The problem has now been resolved and the owner of the premises served with a notice to take necessary measures to prevent this from happening in the future.

4. Prevention visits conducted to all shops selling second hand goods including mobile phones to identify stolen phones and reduce crime as a result of it.
