Don't let burglars ruin your celebrations

Raising burglary awareness on Thames Ward

To help reduce the amount of burglaries of this kind the MPS is urging residents to take a few simple measures to protect their homes and themselves. Throughout the year, and in particular during religious
festivals, we are asking people to keep vigilant and make sure your homes and possessions are secure.

We also advise the following:

"Every year at this time we meet far too many good people who have had their celebrations ruined"

  • Do not leave valuables on display so they can be seen from the outside.
  • Store high-value goods in a safe when you are not at home.
  • Remember to lock all your doors and windows when you leave your home
    unattended.

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Howarth of Barking and Dagenham CID said: “Every year at this time we meet far too many good people who have had their celebrations ruined by a burglar who has taken advantage of home security being overlooked during the festivities. Please make sure that you don’t become a victim of burglary this festive season. Taking a few minutes each day to ensure that your home is secure and that nothing of value is left on show could save you and your family a lot of heartache and inconvenience.”

Safer Neighbourhoods Teams are happy to provide security advice and to discuss any concerns that you may have regarding crime in your area.
