26 April 2012
The 'Love your Borough' awards took place on Friday 20 April 2012 and gave Waltham Forest Council the opportunity to celebrate and say thank you to the residents, businesses, charities and emergency services who work tirelessly to help improve the quality of life for everyone in Waltham Forest.
Amongst the categories were 'Emergency Service Hero award' which was awarded to PC Sally Cockburn who had gone that 'extra mile' to make a difference to the community, neighbourhood and Waltham Forest as a whole.
"Sally is a credit to the organisation and I was delighted to see her receive this award"
PC Cockburn is a Safer School Partnership officer who has shown tireless commitment working with young people and supporting her school community in Waltham Forest. She is the lead police officer for 'the Heart programme' which provides support and advice for teenagers on issues to do with good relationships and problems relating to gang violence and youth crime.
On receiving her award PC Cockburn said 'It is a privilege to be honoured by the local authority in this way. I really enjoy my role as a police officer working with the Safer School Partnership. I have been really fortunate that the work I have done in relation to gang initiatives and working with young people on the borough has been acknowledged. The support I receive from my colleagues has been incredible'.
In attendance was Inspector Andy Bovingdon who said 'Sally is a credit to the organisation and I was delighted to see her receive this award'.
