Man jailed for cultivation of cannabis

A 26yr old man has been jailed after pleading guilty to cultivating cannabis following an investigation by police in Enfield.
Van Tuan Nguyen (13.08.1984) of No Fixed Abode appeared at Wood Green Crown Court on Friday 7th September and pleaded guilty to Production of a Controlled Drug Class B Cannabis. He was sentenced to 27 months imprisonment.
Acting on local intelligence on Tuesday 26th June 2012, police attended a residential premises in Thorneycroft Drive, Enfield with a drugs warrant. Upon police entry NGUYEN was seen running out of the front room, heading through the kitchen area towards the back door where he was detained.
The property is a town house and the upper two levels had been completely converted into a factory to grow cannabis. Almost 300 plants were recovered.
At court NGUYEN pleaded guilty stating he had travelled to the UK illegally to grow cannabis to pay off a debt he owed in Vietnam.
He was sentenced to 27 months imprisonment and will be deported once he is released.
