Operation Elveden arrests

Five men arrested by officers from Operation Elveden on Saturday 28 January, have been bailed pending further enquiries.

['Elveden Arrest 9'] - A 49 year old man (not 48 as previously stated) was arrested at his home address in Essex. He has been bailed to return pending further inquiries in April.

['Elveden Arrest 10'] - A 57 year old man (not 56 as previously stated) was arrested at his home address, also in Essex. He has been bailed to return pending further inquiries in April.

['Elveden Arrest 11'] - A 48 year old man was arrested at his home address in north London. He has been bailed to return pending further inquiries in May.

['Elveden Arrest 13'] - A 42 year old man attended an east London police station and was arrested. He has been bailed to return pending further inquiries in May.

All four were arrested on suspicion of corruption under the Prevention of Corruption Act 1906; aiding and abetting misconduct in a public office (contrary to common law) and conspiracy in relation to both these offences.

['Elveden Arrest 12'] - A 29 year old serving MPS officer was arrested at his place of work at a central London police station on suspicion of corruption under the Prevention of Corruption Act 1906, misconduct in a public office and conspiracy in relation to both these offences. He has been bailed to return pending further inquiries in April.

Searches were carried out at the home addresses of those arrested and at the offices of News International in Wapping, East London. These searches have concluded.

This operation is the result of information provided to police by News Corporation's Management and Standards Committee. It relates to suspected payments to police officers and is not about seeking journalists to reveal confidential sources in relation to information that has been obtained legitimately.
