Officers from three teams combined in a united effort to rescue a man from the River Thames on Wednesday 3 September, after a member of the public was alerted to his screaming.

Police were called at approx 05:40hrs to reports of a man in distress in the River Thames by Storers Quay, E14.

Officers from Tower Hamlets attended the scene and found the man in the water calling in support from the Air Support Unit and Marine Policing Unit (MPU).

As the crew in the helicopter tracked the man - shining the 'night sun' on the water - and providing a video downlink to officers, the man was pulled out by officers from the MPU.

He was taken to Greenwich Pier where the London Ambulance Service took him to a south London hospital where he remains receiving treatment.
