Public Gross Misconduct Hearing Announcement

22 August 2012

New Scotland Yard

The misconduct hearing for PC Simon Harwood is due to commence on 17 September 2012 and is expected to last up to four weeks.

The hearing has been convened following an investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) which resulted in PC Harwood being charged with the manslaughter of Ian Tomlinson on 1 April 2009. He was acquitted on the 19 July 2012 following a trial at Southwark Crown Court.

Following the conclusion of the criminal proceedings the matter was reviewed and a decision taken to refer the matter for a gross misconduct hearing where a panel will be convened to consider the evidence.

The hearing will take place at a hearing room located in police offices in Earl’s Court, London.
There will be a limited number of seats available for members of the public: those who wish to attend, see related links.

Applicants must be aged 16 or over. In the event of over subscription, allocation will be made on a basis of random selection.

Unfortunately due to the limited number of places available there will be no access to the hearing for anyone who has not previously registered and been allocated a seat.
As this is a police building security measures will be in place.
Separate arrangements are being made for the media and they are advised to contact the Directorate of Media and Communications.

Please note that the closing date for applications is 10 September 2012.
