Air Support Unit
The Metropolitan Police Air Support Unit (ASU) is now part of Central Operations. We are based at Lippitts Hill, Loughton where helicopter air support has been providing cover to London for almost 25 years.
Heathrow Airport and London City Airport are policed by a Metropolitan Police Service Operational Command Unit (OCU) known as Aviation Policing.
The Crime Academy was established by the MPS in 2003 following the amalgamation of the Detective Training School, the Scientific Support College and the Analyst Training Unit. We are now considered to be one of the foremost training establishments for detectives, forensic practioners, crime analysts and those in investigative roles.
Dog support unit
The role of the Dog Support Unit (DSU) is to provide police dog and handler teams to support their colleagues across London, and to respond to emergency calls where their unique skills can be used to help make London safer.
We work for a safer London by promoting and delivering world-class driver training to meet the changing needs of policing in London.
Homicide and Serious Crime
The Homicide and Serious Crime Command is responsible for the investigation of homicide and other serious crimes in London
Marine Policing Unit
The Marine Policing Unit (MPU) are responsible for policing 47 miles of the River Thames between Dartford and Hampton Court. We also support our Borough police colleagues by responding to incidents on the 250 miles of canals and other waterways within London.
Every officer and horse receives extensive training to ensure both horse and rider are well equipped to deal with the rigours of policing in the capital.
Online Crime and Fraud - FALCON
A team of specialist detectives here to protect people and businesses in London from complex cyber crime and fraud.
Plant & Agricultural National Intelligence Unit
PANIU assist Police throughout the Country with information and intelligence relating to theft of plant machinery. PANIU maintains the most accurate theft database known which receives data not only from the PNC but also from the majority of the major insurers in the current market.
Protection Command is made up of units responsible for protection services for the Royal Family, ministers and public officials at threat from terrorism, including, visiting heads of government and other public figures.
Roads and Transport Policing Command
The Roads and Transport Policing Command oversees policing on London’s road and transport network. It works in partnership with, and is significantly funded by, Transport for London to tackle transport related crime, improve road safety, reduce the number of traffic related injuries and deaths on London's roads.
SC&O19 Specialist Firearms Command
SC&O19 is the branch name given to the Specialist Firearm Command branch of the Metropolitan Police Service that provides firearms-related support to our unarmed colleagues.
Security Command is formed of units that provide protection to Heathrow and City of London Airports, and additional security and counter-terrorism co-ordination for London.
Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection
The Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection provides protection for foreign missions in London and the parliamentary estate.
Specialist, Organised & Economic Crime
The command has the lead for investigating all economic crime; including ecrime, corruption, human trafficking and prostitution. We also provide a national response to extradition cases, mutual legal assistance and art & antiques crime.
Specialist Crime and Operations
Specialist Crime & Operations provides two main services on behalf of the MPS: To protect London from, and reduce the harm caused by, serious crime and criminal networks and to provide highly visible specialist policing services across the whole of London.
Territorial Support Group
The Territorial Support Group (TSG) supports Territorial Policing, Specialist Crime and Operations and boroughs in achieving our corporate objectives.
Trident and Area Crime Command
Tackling gang violence is a key priority for the Metropolitan Police Service. The Trident Gang Crime Command has responsibility for tackling gang violence and the prevention and investigation of all shootings in London, regardless of the victim’s background.
